Clouds

I've not been able to add anything new to my blog because I've been grieving the sudden and premature death of my dear sister, Peta. She died in her sleep. She was in good health, and had completed many things. Her body was peaceful. This was the sky as we drove to Adelaide to farewell her. The sky was full of these hyper clouds, quite bizarre.Her burial was on the day of the biggest Solar Eclipse of this century. Apparently big Spirits are born and die at the time of eclipses. They are very disruptive.

Jean-Paul Goude inspires

I think this photo is by Jean-Paul Goude, I tried to download some of his other images but they all seem to have strict licensing thingo's attached. However, if you feel like checking some of his more esoteric works out, go to 'Hasted Hunt', where they have an excellent collection. Otherwise, you can see a lot of his better known works if you just put his name in google images.
I was reminded about him, when I started to look through the Guy Bourdin images, both of them were around a lot in the seventies and eighties. Jean-Paul is still very active in the advertising world. In my opinion he was the creator of Grace Jones's mystique, with his wild images of her in his book: 'Jungle Fever'. (she was his muse, and mother of a son, Paulo). My dog-eared copy still has an important place on the book shelf.

Guy Bourdin at The Wapping Project

Unfortunately, this exhibition is no longer on! Finished a few days ago, but still interesting to check out some of the images and to quote from Maison Chaplin: 'The legendary photographer Guy Bourdin has just had a show "unseen Guy Bourdin" exhibition, in London's gallery The Wapping Project. The exhibition included pictures of Bourdin never exposed to the public before, including 32 works of his last Parisian stage.
Bio: Guy Bourdin (1928-1991) was one of the most famous fashion and advertising photographers during the second half of the twentieth century. He shared his taste for controversy and style with his colleague Helmut Newton, but the audacity and narrative power of his images exceed the limits of conventional advertising photography.'

sky jewels @ the Jungle Club

I've been neglecting this blog over the last few days, guess I'm getting caught up in the full moon vibe. However, I needed to say something, and so I've worked more on this image, which I started to create about five years ago. I always really like it, I'm not sure why, except that there's something darkly erotic and sensual going on, and the jewellery is pale sky blue and silver, which is a little unexpected with the rest of it.

I've just made this image with a fantastic and crazy application called 'bonomo', its so much fun, almost as good as the 'brushes' app on my iPhone. You have to practice a lot, because there doesn't seem to be as much control...enjoy!

Inspiration from Madeleine Vionnet

Here is really one of the most important couturiers ever in my opinion. Currently they have dusted off a collection of her works, and I quote:

Although the name of Madeleine Vionnet is hardly known today, in her heyday she was regarded as being as important to fashion as Picasso was to painting.

A landmark first retrospective of her work at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs pays a long overdue homage to her contribution to changing the face of fashion from 1912 until 1939, when she closed her fashion house in the shadow of World War II.

In fashion circles she remains a legend, one of the first modernisers and most innovative designers of her time, particularly for her pioneering use of the bias cut and draping which freed women's bodies from the constraints of the corset.

Her influence on later generations of designers as diverse as Cristobal Balenciaga, Azzedine Alaia and Yohji Yamamoto has been unparalleled.

"These are pieces which are not about prettiness but about beauty," says Pamela Golbin, curator of the show, who spent the best part of two years assembling the 130 models on display.

karma, karma, karma

As seen in West Preston..someone is obviously exploring this particular phenomena with their
spray paint..I wonder if they were thinking anything, or just like the word? I don't really find this aesthetically inspirational, it just appeals to an aspect of my humour...
